Whadaya think?

I'm considering offering custom "Coolest T-shirts."

The deal would be that you send me a photo (at least 1000 pixels wide) of yourself facing the camera wearing a t-shirt, from which I draw a portrait and make the image. Then I'll make the shirt available for $30. I'm considering doing a $10 PayPal deposit up front, then $20 for the shirt. Even if you don't want the shirt afterwards I'd send you a high rez PDF of the portrait.

Does that sound fair? How many of you would be interested.

If I could afford it (starving grad student), I'd totally get one!

oh my god, yes. I want one. My husband definitely needs one. And maybe I would get one if you had "girly" shirts.

also I think it should say "I'm with" and an arrow pointing UP. LOL ;) (I am only sort of kidding)

I'll chime in here to tell you that there are, indeed, girly shirts available.

There is much awesome in that prospect.

WANT!

That is the best idea I've heard in a long time. I'm pondering whether my desire for this shirt makes me more narcissistic or nerdy.

two questions

1) Where do I send my money and photo? This idea rocks.
2) Thought of offering a long-sleeve shirt option? I could almost convince myself to do this twice. Once with a summer beard (goatee) and a short-sleeve shirt, and then a second time with my winter beard (fairly full-on beard) for a long-sleeve shirt. Because the concept just doesn't work as well if my facial hair configuration doesn't match what's on the shirt.

Are we allowed to make (possibly rude or obscene) hand gestures?

I am so intrigued by this idea... but I have 2 Basic Instructions shirts where the design just cracked and came off. Such delicate art is clearly not safe in my destructive hands! Or on my destructive torso?

But if it were on a T-Shirt that had a reasonably improved prospect of survival, I would go for it.

Durability

This is the first complaint of this type I've heard. What shirt or shirts did you have trouble with? I have no interest in selling a shirt that falls apart on people.

It must just be our washer or something then. I have the "Talk to your kids about smoking" and the "World's Most Violent Logo (with address)" shirts. The design on the former is cracking, while the one on the latter just kind of... fell off. Which is a pity, because the smoking shirt is, by far, the shirt I've gotten the most "I love your shirt" comments about. I'll probably buy another and try my luck again. For what it's worth, it probably lasted about a year and was worth *every penny* as far as I'm concerned.

Actually, for $10 to do the design and $20 for the shirt, I'd go for it. Means re-purchasing the shirt would be $20, right?
